Ken, the owner of this Budget called me to ask me to come in early and fill out the paperwork so that i could get the keys right away the following morning. During this call he informed me that I had no choice but to take the insurance or he would not allow me to have the truck unless I could prove that my auto insurance will cover the vehicle. I called my insurance company (Amica) and it turns out that they are one of very few companies who will fully insure any vehicle that I am driving. I then called Ken back and let him know this and that my insurance company was willing to offer proof that I am covered. He then told me" well, I need to get something or you can't have the truck". I told him I would call him back. I was getting ready to call Budget because it clearly states on their website that a renter has no obligation to purchase the insurance (Ken indicated that he's an independent contractor and doesn't have to follow Budget's rules) when Ken called me back and said "he'd make an exception" but double my security deposit. I told him fine and then called Budget who told me that no Budget rental office can force a renter to take the additional insurance and that he may work on commission and wanted to make money off of an upsell. I've rented cars from Budget many times and never had an issue but do not rent from this office because Ken is very shady.
Ken, the owner, is a liar with an attitude. I read the 1 star reviews on Yelp but decided to go with Budget Franklin because it was convenient and had competitive prices. After having a terrible experience with the rented equipment Ken had no interest in listening to my complaint or assisting with a resolution. In addition he charged me more then the agreed upon price. I will not do business with this establishment again.
I cancelled the reservation and booked with Uhaul in Natick. This location did not require extra insurance and charged us the agreed upon price in their quote. Fantastic service.
Same experience as the other reviews, might be a pattern? The owner called the night before asking us to come and fill out paperwork. At the end he started dropping lines on insurance and that we were required to buy it. Keep in mind the budget website indicates differently. I told him our insurance would cover to which he replied he'd never seen that and I needed to print my policy. At that point told him to cancel the reservation and he tried to hit me with a cancellation fee. Avoid this guy at all cost.
So, Ken, not only did you lose over $300 because you lost me as a customer, I will now avoid all Budget locations, including the car rental shops.
Wow, stay away from here at all costs. EXACTLY like the other reviews I was told that it's a "budget thing" and that I needed to fill out a document to the best of my knowledge about my policy covering insurance for the truck rental or have to buy additional from them. What a total scam. I've rented from other budget locations before and never had this issue. My insurance agency is closed on sundays and after telling the woman I didn't know for sure if I was covered on these things but did not want anything additional she could've absolutely cared less about it. I had also tried calling this office multiple times with zero answer and straight to voicemail and when I get there she was like hiding in the back room. STAY CLEAR of this place and to the owners hire some people that actually want to work and stop your insurance scam. I will never do budget again. Went to UHAUL and i was in and out in minutes. What a mistake wasted so much time.
This location is garbage. Ken is a piece of trash. Stay away and use Uhaul in Natick or some other company.
Ken called my wife a day before our move and said in addition to the quoted price, we were required to purchase additional insurance for an extra $126. This was non-negotiable, and a clear bait-and-switch.
